The Importance of Support during a Detox
No one likes to feel they are making a decision to go in a new direction without support. Some of us come to the realization that’s how it is and go forth any way, but we would probably all prefer to feel supported as we decide to take our lives in new directions.
We acknowledge that some of you reading this are surrounded by friends, family and co-workers who won’t have a clue what you’re doing if you start changing your diet, trying detox therapies and taking more supplements. Their response can range from mild perplexity or disinterest to outright derision, with comments like, “Ah come on, you only live once. You’re becoming a real stick-in-the-mud.” Or, “You’re going to dry up and blow away eating rabbit food like that.” And they will go on eating badly, drinking heavily, smoking and entertaining themselves in, if not thoroughly unhealthy ways, at least in ways that do not include positive, healthy components.
If it’s any consolation, I can say that after approximately 20 years of some level of detoxifying lifestyle, it has never cost me a friend…we just order differently at restaurants. I am a 95% vegetarian, but I reserve that 5% for social and traveling situations when it’s impossible to find anything to eat that fits into the matrix. If you’re launching into this because of severe health problems and can’t afford the 5% flexibility, you may have to travel with your own food supplies, and take food with you when you go out.
