Windsor Castle Fascinating History:

The erection of Windsor can be found in the beginning of the seventh century Saxon hamlet of Windlesora, where the current day dwellings of Old Windsor is sited. The settlement of Windsor is properly recognised as the “New Windsor” - the actual phrase “new” being taken in a relative way!

Windsor Castle was at first put up by the illustrious William the Conqueror, following his raid of England in ten-sixty-six. The original building was constructed from timber with sol barricades. Palace held a comprehensible tactical location on a steep mound above the River Thames, & was part of a circle of castles surrounding the Capital, with the Tower of London, one whole days march away, at its centre.

The Palace was restored in rock, & grew in value over the subsequent centuries. In recent times Henry 2nd put up the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the Castle’s primary role became that of a royal palace. Windsor Castle has stayed for the most part untouched ever since the start of the 19th century, apart from the overhaul effort that followed the horribly fire in 1992.
